A Survey of Cost Control Methods for E-journal Management

Page One
Because of the current economic crisis, lots of libraries are being faced with budget cuts. A recently published article in the Library Journal also expresses concern that libraries should brace for significant budget cuts. In an April 15, 2009 Library Journal article, by a Lee C. Van Orsdel and Kathleen Born forecast that there may be price increases of 7-9% for e-journals in 2010, and that price concessions and contract renegotiations may be difficult to obtain from publishers.("Reality Bites: Publishing Price Survey 2009", http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6651248.html)

To accommodate these trends and maintain the quality of e-collections, many libraries have adopted different cost control methods for E-journal acquisition and management. I hope you will share your experiences in controlling budgets and costs of acquisitions and management of E-resources, and specifically E-journals. The information gathered will be used in my Peking University Ph.D. research on developing cost control methods for e-journal collections. I will be happy to share the results of my study with you when it is completed.
