Information Sheet and Consent
My name is Karen McAllister and I’m a 4th year undergraduate Psychology student attending Trinity College, Dublin. As part of my final year I am undertaking a research project that will investigate Synaesthesia and Dyslexia.
This questionnaire is designed for people who have Synaesthesia. If you do not have synaesthesia, please do not complete the questionnaire but thank you for your interest.
According to the Dyslexia Association of Ireland, Dyslexia “is a specific learning difficulty which makes it hard for some people to learn to read, write and spell correctly.” These difficulties are unexpected as other measures of intelligence are perfectly normal.
To date, there has been no research that has looked at the occurrence of both Synaesthesia and Dyslexia. Please note that there is no suggestion that one condition causes the other. The aim here is only to look at the prevalence of each in each group and any family patterns that may or may not exist.
If you are willing to take part in this study, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire with questions relating to both dyslexia and synaesthesia. Any personal information you give will be treated as strictly confidential, stored in a locked filing cabinet for 5 years and only accessible by the researcher and their supervisor.
You may withdraw from the study at any stage without prejudice and under the Freedom of Information Act, you will have the right to access your personal data if you so request (but only if contact details are provided for identification).
Thank you for your participation in this study.
